We were walking on the beach in Tramore and met Richard. He told us of those who had wandered the same beach but been caught unawares when the tide moved in behind them cutting them off from a safe exit. They would be enveloped by the sea and washed away.
As we explored, we kept Richard’s warnings close. We watched the incoming tide, looked for possible places to climb the cliffs, just in case, and kept an eye on the time. We balanced the beauty and the danger for we had been forewarned.
Be in the world not of it
Our Lord has warned us and we have heard and heeded those warnings and are eternally safe because we have listened. We need to pass on His warning to others but we are in a place that vehemently fights against that knowledge. That means we have to go out into the world, along its dangerous beaches and personally tell people this saving knowledge.
As we go out, the world wants to lure us to places where it can move in slowly behind us and cut us off. It wants to get us caught up in itself and distract us from the danger. It wants to entice us with promises of beauty just around the next bend and assurances that we will have plenty of time to get back before the tide washes us away. It wants to steal our mission, our life, our walk with God. Don’t be fooled. The tide will come in and you will be cut off.
How to walk a dangerous path
The key is to walk WITH Christ wherever you go. The LORD of the tides can certainly keep you safe. He tells us to go out into the world and tell the good news of His salvation. If we are doing so we are definitely walking where the world will seek to lure us too far. We cannot safely walk this path without the Lord.
Warning others of danger
Christ ate with sinners, He spent time with the lost but He never went so far as to join them in their sin. He always walked with His Father and always in His will. It isn’t that there should never be risk, it is that we should know the risks, know our own limitations and temptations and keep an eye on whether we are moving beyond where Christ intended.
Most people that you see are in danger, eternal danger, and most don’t realize it. The tide is coming in and those you see need to start heading back NOW. Head down the beach, watch the time, know your exits, enjoy God’s beauty and tell others that they have a choice to go to safety or be washed away.
